MEDITERRANEAN SPARKLING DRINK WITH MASTIHA WATER
The precious ‘tear’ of the mastiha tree, mastiha is the world-renowned natural resin from the Mediterranean island of Chios, and has been cherished for its unique properties since ancient times.
This priceless gift of nature provides and sustains life. It is a symbol of strength, purity, rejuvenation and abundance.
The naturally-flavoured mastiha water is a product of the distillation of pure mastiha, using steam. It brings all the unique and beneficial properties of mastiha to delicious Mastiqua.
The combining of mastiha with water is said to have begun four millennia ago in ancient Egypt, where they used this simple but enchanting idea to purify drinking water and make it pleasant to drink.
Mastic is a resin produced by the mastic tree. It is a natural resin in teardrop shape also known as tears of Chios, as the mastic trees are only grown in the south of Chios island, Greece. Its harvest period is before the first autumn rain, while the teardrops are cleaned with olive oil soap and the big ones with a knife.
Mastic was first mentioned by Herodotus, as a product used in embalming. Women in Rome used to use it to freshen their breath and whiten their teeth. Nowadays, mastic is also used in gums, protecting those who have tooth problems.
It has been mentioned that mastic also helps in digestive problems and loosen the cough.
