Our history

The company was formed in 2001 when the love for nature, ecology and a healthier lifestyle, took shape in the northern Aegean island, the evergreen Thassos.

Since then, the cultivation of Thassos olive (Olea Europea var. Thassos Throuba), is made exclusively with organic farming standards without chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

We also process and package its fruit in order to produce mainly two products, table olives and olive oil, while we process and package other varieties of olives as well.

Point of reference

The name “Velouitinos” which accompanies all products is a unique and original concept created specifically to highlight the unique qualitative characteristics of olives, olive oil, but also of the perennial trees from which they are produced. It corresponds to a character as presented in the original etiquettes of Velouitinos, and nowadays constitutes a point of reference for them.

It comes from an instant inspiration, the capture of the image of this noble personality. Velouitinos is a positive energy, a catalyst and helper. He is our scientific partner in the fifth dimension.

Velouitinos is a winter swimmer, likes to bathe in the morning sun, run through the woods and climb trees.

Olive Throumba Thassou

With time, and detecting market needs for clean and quality food a “Protected Designation of Origin” product was created. It is subjected only to mild processing, without heat treatment (pasteurization), and it contains only a small amount of salt compared with similar products in the market. Attention is also paid to the packaging of the olive fruit – durable, impervious to oxygen, in modified atmosphere – so the olive is not oxidized and it preserves its unique characteristics of flavor and aroma.

History of Thassos

Thassos is also known as the “Emerald Island”. Its lush vegetation and forests make the island a great destination for holidays and explorations. In antiquity, Thassos was known as “The Athens of the North”, due to the considerable reputation the island enjoyed. The island was rich in natural resources and minerals and strategically positioned. Ancient peoples, such as Athenians, Spartans, Romans, Persians targeted the island for invasion.

Nowadays, a good place to start your exploration is the archaeological museum in Thassos Town (Limenas). It is highly recommended during your staying on the island. Exhibits from monumental sculptures and gold jewellery will attract your attention. Exploring the town of Limenas, you face the ancient marketplace, the sanctuaries of god Hercules, Dionysus, Poseidon, Artemis, and the ancient theatre. Around Limenas still are the remains of the city-wall made of white Thassian marble.
